The Glucommander platform helps to streamline workflows, improve outcomes and support electronic health record (EHR) systems. Waltham, Massachusetts-based Glytec says it closely follows the next evolution of GlucoMetrics released this past spring. GlucoMetrics provides new insights and analytics to help hospitals improve glycemic management.

More than 300 hospitals in the U.S. utilize Glytec’s eGlycemic Management System (eGMS). The company built that around Glucommander, the only cloud-based, FDA-cleared software for personalized IV and subcutaneous insulin dosing. Glucommander 3.5.3.0 software, the latest release, offers better ease of use more intuitive features, the company said.

“Glytec is leading the way to a future where every hospital across the country provides the highest quality glycemic care possible,” said Dr. Jordan Messler, Glytec chief medical officer. “We are working towards making that vision a reality by establishing Glucommander as the standard of care for insulin dosing through innovation, continuous improvement, collaboration and clinical excellence. Since our inception, we have worked closely with customers and partners to understand workflows in busy hospitals and ensure our tools fit seamlessly to enhance operations and support improved patient outcomes. Today’s release is an important milestone in our journey and paves the way for even greater things to come.”

Glytec designed the latest release with enhanced order flexibility, aligning order integration more closely with clinical best practice. This makes ordering easier, reducing the learning curve for new providers and decreasing the risk of starting a patient on incorrect parameters.

The system also provides improved IV and subcutaneous transition workflows. Frontline nurses gain easier, at-a-glance access to information needed for a safer transition of patients.

Hospital pharmacists also now have expanded medication options available for the treatment of hypoglycemia. Glytec said it plans to update its oral carbohydrate recommendations for treating severe hypoglycemia.

“EHR are the lifeblood of health systems, and the tighter integration with leading EHR providers is a testament to the work our technical experts have accomplished,” said John Downey, Glytec chief commercial officer. “When it comes to glycemic management, build-it-yourself calculators can no longer keep up with the pace of innovation or deliver patient-specific decision support that a high-alert medication like insulin requires. Health systems need research-driven software backed by hundreds of real-world implementations and continuous innovation – and that’s what Glytec delivers.

“Recent enhancements to both Glucommander and GlucoMetrics are a testament to our drive towards continuous innovation and providing hospitals with a truly comprehensive glycemic management solution.”
